Lotus Flower Carving

I had been putting in some practice with much larger watermelons at this point. I wanted to get a feel for what it was like to work on larger surfaces. I figured where it was early in the game of my learning how to better hold the knife that it would be good to push myself and really focus on the project at hand.

In Thailand, the lotus flower is a very important symbol that represents faith, purity, and how this gorgeous flower grows out and into the direction of the sun. It really is a symbol of rising above life's challenges and barriers that are often sprung on you. And in being successful to come out of life's challenges, you rise above it all and shine brightly!
